Mountain Fresh Festival - Dinner Plain & Mount Hotham
Mountain Fresh Festival - Dinner Plain & Mount Hotham
23.07.2010

Awaken your senses with a six-day winter festival of delicious regional food and exciting cool climate wines from the spectacular Alpine Valleys that will take place for the 5th time in 2010.

The village-like atmosphere of both Dinner Plain and Mt Hotham provides the perfect setting for this celebration of Alpine wine and food with altitude. A diverse program of individual events will be held at venues across the two locations that will strongly feature wine and food from the Alpine Valleys Wine region - the mountain's truly local produce.

From wine tastings and master classes, to foodie films, pampering sessions, kid's activities, tapas and regional produce platters, there is something for everyone. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience delicious gourmet food and quality local beer and wine from the Alpine Valleys region in a magnificent snowy setting.

MOUNTAIN FRESH TOP CHEF CHALLENGE
Help us decide who’s top dog in the kitchen. Mountain chefs have been challenged to create a Mountain Fresh dish using local produce. Visit participating venues to sample and critique our chefs’ dishes. All critics will be entered into the Mountain Fresh prize draw* and the winning chef will receive the prestigious title of Fresh Chef 2010.

Advance Sled dog Challenge
Advance Sled dog Challenge
14.08.2010

Dinner Plain is the only Australian Alpine Village where sled dogs are allowed to race. Spectators are most welcome, but it is stressed that dogs not competing be left at home.

Celebrating more than 16 years of successful sled dog racing, this race is held over the weekend of 14th & 15th August 2008 with 2, 3, 4 and 6 dog teams competing. This annual event showcases the top dogs of sled dog racing in Australia and is unique because it is the only Australian snow-based race of its kind.

Over 65 Mushers (dog team drivers) and more than 350 sled dogs are expected to compete in this year's event. The team who completes the course both days in the fastest time wins.

Spectators attending the weekend are in for a unique experience. They will see and hear plenty of enthusiastic sled teams with howling and excited snow-dogs. There will be many spectators and media jostling for the best vantage points.

During this weekend the spectators would be treated to freight sled pulling demonstrations, snow ball throwing and snowman building competition for the kids, BBQ, souvenir stands, pumped competitors, presentation and celebration. This all contributes to a colourful and electric atmosphere.

Race Start times:
Saturday 9.00am to 1.30pm - followed by lunch
Sunday 9.00am to 12.30pm - followed by awards
